My Excellent Choices

I am sure you have heard about Google Maps, Waze, Apple maps and more. Most of these mobile apps rely on the phone GPS and locations services for point-to-point navigation by car, bus or by foot on city streets.

You may not be aware of a whole other category of location-based mapping tools. These other navigation tools are optimized for outdoor activities on the lake, hiking, hunting and more.

Take a moment to read about Landglide. This location-based map integrates satellite, topography, contour data, flood zone data, and building information with publicly available property records!

As you walk or drive, Landglide will overlay your moving location onto a map highlighting all property boundaries. It provides address, acreage, land use type, valuations and ownership information – based on the publicly available property records that Landglide has accessed.

Don’t expect instant updates when property changes hands, and don’t be surprised if there are occasionally errors in the public databases. Do expect to have your curiosity satisfied about that big beach house or that old mansion on the outside of town.

Of course, if you work in real estate, construction or related fields – you will find this a valuable work aid, and the monthly or annual fee might be justified as a business expense.

GPS and location services in a mobile phone are not pinpoint accurate, but certainly sufficient to find markers, survey pins and other distinguishing features of a piece of property.

The EGO Power+ BCA1220 12” Carbon Fiber Shaft Brush Cutter Attachment deserves its own page and its own review. It is one of many attachments available for the EGO Powerhead system of high performance battery powered tools.

If you have used string cutters successfully up to the point of frustration, and want something capable of heavier weeds, bushes and undergrowth; then you should check out this brush cutter. The metal blade cuts through thick brush that is too large for string cutters and too small for chain saws.

My next purchase for the Powerhead system will likely be the pole saw, but this brush cutter attachment probably sees more use than any other EGO product that I own. The brush cutter and Powerhead combo is a great starter kit for the EGO system of battery powered tools.

What does the Powerhead do? Well, not much until you add this!

The powerhead is just the start of a very versatile system of specialty tools and attachments.

An friend remembered seeing an old Johnny Carson skit, “Dickey The Stick” and started to poke a little fun at the EGO Powerhead; but I had the last laugh when I added batteries and the brush cutter attachment. What a fantastic combination! The brush cutter tackles that tough growth that string cutters don’t even scratch.

My wish list is growing. I do want the string cutter, the extension pole, the pole saw and probably one more battery.

There are two versions of the Powerhead (1400 and 1420). The difference in price is small and you may want to consider the 1420 upgrade like I did. Be sure to shop the combo packages at Amazon. You can sometimes save if you get the Powerhead, batteries and attachments as a promotional bundle.

Carry the cloud in your pocket! These palm-sized external storage devices plug into the USB connector and are made by Samsung in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities. I bought the 2TB to keep a backup of photos, videos, documents, everything on my laptops and in my personal cloud!

It very fast compared to the USB “sticks” and memory cards that I have used in the past. I used to back up everything from my local machine to the cloud. Now, I do the opposite. Everything in the cloud gets backed up to this external USB.
